MEGA Dream ex is Japan's year-end High Class Pack, released November 28, 2025 at 550円 for a ten-card pack: 250 cards, 193 main plus 57 secrets. Its most valuable card is not a Special Art Rare. All ten Mega Attack Rares had early lots printed with the wrong surface texture, and those errors trade 10 to 20 times the corrected print. This pool became the English set Ascended Heroes two months later.
A High Class Pack is not an expansion pack
The distinction is priced, not cosmetic. A 拡張パック, the standard expansion, is 180円 for five cards: メガブレイブ and メガシンフォニア (M1), インフェルノX (m2), ムニキスゼロ (m3). A ハイクラスパック is 550円 for ten, once a year. The a suffix in M2a marks it as a side product, between m2 and m3.
Triple the price buys a much larger checklist and a deliberately reprint-heavy body: the 193-card main set is double a standard expansion, mostly reprints of the year's tournament staples, with only about 61 to 64 new cards. The upside sits in the secret tail, 57 of 250.
A box is 10 packs, 100 cards, 5,500円. It guarantees one Mega Attack Rare, one Trainer SR, three Art Rares and six to seven mirrors; MA and RR are alternates in the same slot. Sampling puts a Special Art Rare at one per two to three boxes and the Mega Ultra Rare at one per three to four cartons of 20. Mirrors run to 236 varieties across ten energy patterns and six ball or emblem patterns, none scarcer.
God Packs (神パック) are confirmed in M2a and the contents are precise: AR ×1, MA ×5 and SAR ×4, a full pack of hits. The rate is not. ポケゲトちゃんねる and トレカの地図 estimate one per 30 to 50 boxes; CUBEの部屋 puts it at one per 100. No rate has ever been published officially, so that range is the honest answer.
The Mega Attack Rare error print
メガアタックレア debuts here: ten cards at 223 to 232, one per Mega Evolution ex, full-art in a pop-art comic style with the highlight attack name in large display type across the art. The language is inverted between regions on purpose — Japanese MA cards print that name in English, so Mega Charizard X ex 223 reads INFERNO X, while English MA cards print it in Japanese.
All ten had early lots printed with the surface texture layer meant for the Traditional Chinese release. That layer is cut to the shape of Chinese characters, so on a Japanese card it sits wrong around the lettering and leaves the name area flat and uncoated — checkable by eye. PokeBeach reported it in November 2025; The Pokémon Company acknowledged a 表面加工の誤り on December 5 and opened an exchange process.
The result is a two-tier market inside single card numbers. Figures below are Japanese shop quotes dated July 1 to 10, 2026; 買取 is what a shop pays, 相場 the ask.
| Mega Attack Rare | No. | Error print | Corrected print | Multiple |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| メガカイリューex / Mega Dragonite ex | 232 | ¥40,000 相場 | ¥1,500 買取 | not like-for-like |
Error pricing is a wide, illiquid band, not a fixed number: 攻略大百科, dated July 24, 2026, prices the same three top errors at ¥70,000, ¥47,000 and ¥22,000. Japanese figures come in three flavours quoted as one — 買取 is what a shop pays, 販売価格 what a shop charges, フリマ相場 the collector rate. Precedent: Battle Partners' gold N's Zoroark ex was mis-printed in 2025 and became that set's top card.
The chase cards
Twelve cards worth knowing. Filter by rarity, tap to zoom.

The 193-card main set is 92 normal Pokémon, 48 normal Trainers, 26 Rares and 27 Double Rares. The 57 secrets run 194 to 250: 20 Art Rares, 9 Super Rares, 10 Mega Attack Rares, 17 Special Art Rares and one Mega Ultra Rare, メガカイリューex at 250. No UR tier; MUR replaced it. One trap: メガヤンマex at 003/193 is Yanmega ex, worth two Prize cards — every genuine Mega Evolution ex gives up three.
What the market has done since November
Sealed boxes traded at ¥12,555 on launch day, bottomed at ¥9,100 on January 2, 2026, peaked at ¥15,555 across April and May and sit at ¥14,800 in July 2026 — up 18% on launch, 5% below the peak, on a box whose parts list at 5,500円. Shrink wrap is worth ¥2,478 to ¥2,747 of that: ¥14,000 買取 wrapped on July 24, 2026 against ¥11,253 to ¥11,522 unwrapped on July 10.
Opening expected value, what a box's contents fetch, is ¥10,641 to ¥10,765 as of July 25, 2026, below the ¥14,800 to ¥16,000 the sealed box trades for. Singles went the other way; the table is 買取, launch day against July 2026.
| Card | Rarity | Nov 28, 2025 | Jul 2026 | Move |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nのゾロアークex 242/193 | SAR | ¥12,000 | ¥4,500–5,300 | −56% to −63% |
| カナリィ 248/193 | SAR | ¥12,500 | ¥2,912–3,250 | −74% to −77% |
On the ask side ポケカ当たり quotes メガゲンガーex 240 at ¥61,600 販売価格 against ¥43,350 買取, ピカチュウex 234 at ¥48,440 against ¥33,600 and gold メガカイリューex 250 at ¥43,080 against ¥30,000, all dated July 25, 2026 Japan time. Gengar 240 is what the set is remembered for: the Pokémon had only released through a September 2025 deck product, so this was its first Special Art Rare, and it out-priced the gold MUR at launch.
Graded diverged from raw: that card in PSA 10 peaked at ¥167,899 on May 19, 2026 and sits near ¥94,500 on a seven-day average as of July 15. The set-wide pattern holds — sealed and the top-end error prints appreciated while mid-tier singles lost 40 to 77%, ピカチュウex 234 the one clean exception.

Sealed decks traded at ¥3,450 on launch day, peaked at ¥4,500 in April 2026 and sit at ¥2,500 to ¥2,600 in July, still roughly 2.8 times list. How MEGA Dream ex became Ascended Heroes
Ascended Heroes released in English on January 30, 2026 at 295 cards, 217 main plus 78 secrets: the largest English set ever printed and the first with the J regulation mark. It draws primarily on M2a and secondarily on Start Deck 100.
The secret tail decomposes exactly: 33 Illustration Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, 7 Mega attack rares, 22 Special Illustration Rares and 2 gold Hyper Rares. The Illustration Rare tier beats Japan's 20 Art Rares because English folded in Start Deck 100's too — 19 of M2a's 20 plus 13 of Start Deck 100's 14. That accounts for 32 of the 33; the remaining one, Iono's Wattrel at 231, traces to neither source set and its Japanese origin is unconfirmed. All nine M2a Super Rares became English Ultra Rares.
The difference that matters is at the MA tier. Japan has ten Mega Attack Rares, English seven; the three cut are Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Gardevoir ex and Mega Lucario ex, so the most valuable Japanese card here has no English counterpart. Mega Gengar ex SAR 240 became SIR 284 and gold Mega Dragonite ex 250 became 295; the other English gold, 294, is Start Deck 100's 766.
