拡張パック「メガブレイブ」 (Mega Brave, code M1L) and 拡張パック「メガシンフォニア」 (Mega Symphonia, code M1S) launched together in Japan on August 1, 2025, at 180円 for a five-card pack. Each holds 92 cards — 63 main plus 29 secrets numbered 064 to 092 — for 184 across the pair. This is the MEGA block's debut: メガシンカex, Mega Evolution ex, gives up three Prize cards when knocked out instead of two, and a new top rarity, MUR (Mega Ultra Rare), replaces UR at one per set. Eight weeks later both pools fed the English set Mega Evolution.
Mega Brave is M1L, Mega Symphonia is M1S
English listings get this backwards often enough to settle it first. On the official Japanese card database every Mega Brave card image sits under /card_images/large/M1L/ and every Mega Symphonia card under /M1S/. PokeGuardian, SNKRDUNK, 遊々亭 and カードラッシュ label them the same way. Listings with the codes swapped are wrong.
The letters do not stand for Large and Small. The obvious reading is L for メガルカリオex, the Mega Brave cover, and S for メガサーナイトex — サーナイト, Sirnight, is Gardevoir's Japanese name and the Mega Symphonia cover. No official explanation exists, so the mnemonic is inference; the mapping is sourced.
How Mega Evolution ex works
The Special Rule box on every メガシンカex reads 「メガシンカexがきぜつしたとき、相手はサイドを3枚とる。」 — when a Mega Evolution ex is knocked out, the opponent takes three Prize cards. One more than a regular Pokémon ex, and the block's defining trade: outsized HP and attacks, paid for by losing half the game in one knockout.
The structure gets misreported. Mega Evolution ex are not all Stage 2s, and they are not XY-era Basic M-EX cards. The official page says they appear as たねポケモン and 進化ポケモン both, and the ten here prove it: four Basics, four Stage 1s, two Stage 2s. Each is printed at Double Rare and Super Rare; three per set add a Special Art Rare, one per set the MUR.

The 270 to 380 spread is deliberate: Basics are turn-one attackers, Stage 2s Rare Candy targets. The second debut is a rarity — MUR, メガウルトラレア, takes the slot UR held through Scarlet & Violet, one per set, both by 5ban Graphics on an etched circular backdrop. Neither set contains a UR, a new Trainer subtype or a Special Energy card. Japanese Trainer names are used here; official English print names were not verifiable.

The twelve chase cards
Prices are 遊々亭 asks — 販売価格, what the shop charges — on July 24, 2026. Filter by rarity or set.
Three of the twelve belong together: the official page advertises ARs and SARs that connect side by side, 「3枚のカードを並べることで迫真のフルイラストを堪能しよう」. The trio is フシギダネ AR 064/063, フシギソウ AR 065/063 and メガフシギバナex SAR 087/063 — all Mega Brave, all by mashu, one vine-and-bloom panorama across the Bulbasaur line. No Mega Symphonia AR or SAR shares an illustrator, arguing against one there.
The name to know is Mitsuhiro Arita on メガアブソルex 089/063 — the 1996 Base Set Charizard illustrator, and the reason a ¥3,980 SAR sells to people with no interest in Absol. Atsushi Furusawa drew the SR リーリエの決心 and the メガルカリオex SAR. Both MURs are 5ban Graphics, which handled most of the Double and Super Rare Mega ex too.
Both sets run the same ladder card for card: 31 Commons, 21 Uncommons, 6 Rares and 5 Double Rares fill the 63-card main set, all five Double Rares Mega Evolution ex. The 29 secrets are 12 Art Rares (064–075), 11 Super Rares (076–086), 5 Special Art Rares (087–091) and one Mega Ultra Rare at 092. Four Items exist only at Super Rare: 夜のタンカ and ふうせん in Mega Brave, なかよしポフィン and ふしぎなアメ in Mega Symphonia. トレカの地図 reports the MUR near 1.6% a box, one per 61, any SAR near 28.6% and a Super Rare near 78% — community estimates; no official rates exist.
What the market has done since August 2025
Eleven months on the pattern is an orderly retreat; nothing in either set trades above its launch print. Japanese prices come in three flavours quoted as one number: 買取 is what a shop pays you, 販売価格 what a shop charges, フリマ相場 the collector rate. Columns below are トレカの地図, dated July 21, 2026.

Two readings. The MURs converged: both opened at ¥99,000 and now sit within a few thousand yen of each other, 遊々亭 listing both at ¥59,800 on July 24, 2026. Character demand fell harder than mechanic demand — リーリエの決心 at SAR is down 62%, the Lucario MUR and SAR 33% and 36%.
Sealed carries the cleaner signal. トレカの地図 has Mega Brave boxes near ¥11,067 shrink-wrapped against ¥7,877 unshrinked, Mega Symphonia near ¥10,000 against ¥7,016 — a shrink premium close to 40% on both. カードラッシュ asked ¥13,800 and ¥12,800 on July 24, 2026.
That 40% gap is a premium on the wrap, not the cards inside; pack contents are identical. Japanese shops list the two separately, so any yen figure for a box is ambiguous until you know which one it means, and whether it is 買取 or 販売価格.

How the pair became the English Mega Evolution set
Japanese sets feed the English schedule on a lag, and this pair fed one release, not two. Mega Evolution arrived September 26, 2025 at 188 cards, 132 main plus 56 secrets, carrying most of both pools plus Trainers first printed in the Premium Trainer Box MEGA. 188 against 184 does not mean four were added — English sets reorganise numbering and rarity wholesale, so the M1L and M1S cards are included in Mega Evolution rather than reprinted one-to-one.
