Pokémon TCG Japan - Storm Emeralda: Every Revealed Card in Japan's Mega Rayquaza ex Set

Japan gets the summer's biggest Pokémon TCG release on Friday, July 31: MEGA Expansion Pack Storm Emeralda, the M6 set that brings Mega Rayquaza back to the card game. Every English collector should care too, because this is the exact set we get as Delta Reign on November 6. Here is every card revealed so far, in one place.

The headliner: Mega Rayquaza ex

A Colorless Basic with 280 HP that breaks a six-year rule: since Sword & Shield, only Dragon types have carried attack costs outside their own type. Its Storm Emeralda attack does 50 damage for each Fire and Lightning Energy attached to all of your Pokémon, and its Ability accelerates a Basic Energy from the top 4 cards of your deck the turn it hits the Bench. As a Mega Evolution ex it gives up 3 Prizes when it goes down.

A Stadium in two halves

Storm Emeralda introduces the split Stadium: two different cards you must play from hand at the same time, which then count as a single Stadium. It is the first two-piece card design since the LEGEND cards of the HeartGold & SoulSilver era, and the set has two of them.

A Collection File Premium Mega Rayquaza binder (¥2,200) rounds out the launch lineup. There is no Japanese elite trainer box equivalent; Japan's format is the 30-pack box.

The Mega Gallade ex promo

Japan is running sealed tournaments for the set: open packs, build a deck on the spot, and winners are mailed a new Special Illustration Rare Mega Gallade ex. Players can also run the event at home with friends, submit an application, and 2,000 entrants are drawn at random for the same promo.

The road to Delta Reign

Storm Emeralda's cards reach the English game on November 6 as Delta Reign, a full three months after Japan because 30th Celebration claimed the September slot worldwide. Japanese results are the best preview we get: the secret rares (roughly 35 to 40 of them) usually surface within days of launch, and early singles prices out of Japan tend to telegraph the English chase cards. We will track both.
