Abyss Eye is the fifth expansion of Japan's MEGA series, released May 22, 2026 as ポケモンカードゲーム MEGA 拡張パック「アビスアイ」. It holds 118 cards, 81 in the main set plus 37 secrets, and it is the first pack in the block sold at 200円 rather than 180円, after an official price revision dated January 30, 2026. Mega Darkrai ex is the cover card and the only Mega Ultra Rare. The pool became the English set Pitch Black.
Japan's pack price rose from 180円 to 200円 here
The rise is a published revision to the 希望小売価格, the suggested retail price, not a retailer markup. The official notice 「一部商品価格改定のお知らせ」, posted January 30, 2026, moves new products released from May 2026 from 180円 to 200円 tax included, citing 原材料費の高騰, a surge in raw-material costs. An 11.1% increase, and the 希望小売価格 line on each MEGA-block page shows where it lands.

Every pack above holds 5 cards. Ninja Spinner was the last at 180円 and Storm Emeralda holds the new price, so Abyss Eye is the changeover.
Only the per-pack figure is an official 希望小売価格; Japan publishes none for a booster box. At 30 packs the arithmetic carries from 5,400円 to 6,000円, which is what Pokémon Center Online and every lottery retailer charged — a derived list price, not an official one.
ばけがくれ blocks effects, not damage
The set mechanic is the Ability 特性「ばけがくれ」, localized as Hide 'n' Sneak. The official page teases it as 「相手のワザや特性の効果を受けない」, unaffected by the opponent's attacks and Abilities — far broader than the card. The English text settles it: Prevent all effects of your opponent's Pokémon's attacks and Abilities done to this Pokémon. (Damage is not an effect.)
That parenthetical is the whole card. The Pokémon still takes damage and is still Knocked Out normally; it ignores only what rides alongside — Special Conditions, forced switching, Energy removal, damage counters, Ability lock.
Exactly four Pokémon carry it, as two evolution lines rather than a scattered keyword: チャデス / Poltchageist #005 into ヤバソチャ / Sinistcha #006, and カゲボウズ / Shuppet #031 into ジュペッタ / Banette #032. That caps a deck at 16 copies, the number governing the payoff — three cards, not one.

Spiritomb is the outlier: with 16 copies maximum and Prize cards taking some out of reach, Japanese commentary reads 13 as very hard to reach. Dhelmise at four turns on reliably.
The card that makes a Benched Darkness Pokémon immune to attack damage is シャドー悪エネルギー / Shadowy Darkness Energy #081 — a Special Energy, not the Pokémon Tool it is widely reported as. It pairs with ザルード / Zarude #054, whose Shadow Whip does 100 damage, or 170 if a Benched Pokémon holds one. The other new Energy, ボルト雷エネルギー / Bolty Lightning Energy #080, adds 20 damage to the attached Lightning Pokémon's attacks. Effects follow the official page and PokéGuardian; the printed Japanese text is nowhere verifiably transcribed.
Five rule-box headliners, not three
Most English summaries list three Mega Evolution ex: Darkrai, Zeraora, Chandelure. There are four. メガドリュウズex / Mega Excadrill ex #063 is the one that disappears, traceably: a widely-cited Japanese roundup's machine-translated list renders メガドリュウズ as "Mega Dragonite". A fifth headliner, ラムパルドex / Rampardos ex #043, is a regular ex.

All four Mega Evolution ex carry the block rule: when one is Knocked Out the opponent takes three Prize cards, not two. Mega Darkrai ex's second attack names the set — アビスアイ / Abyss Eye costs three Darkness Energy and deals no damage, but Knocks Out an opposing Active under any Special Condition, whatever its HP. Hence ダークベル / Dark Bell #070, an Item that Confuses both Actives except Darkness types.
The chase cards
Twelve secrets worth knowing, with illustrator and 遊々亭 販売価格 (the shop ask) on July 24, 2026.
The 37 secrets run 082 to 118: 12 Art Rares (all non-rule-box Pokémon), 18 Super Rares, 6 Special Art Rares and one Mega Ultra Rare at 118. MUR replaced UR as the MEGA-block top tier and prints in English as Mega Hyper Rare. Pull rates collected from social media, not published by Pokémon, put a box at roughly 4 Double Rares, 3 Art Rares and 1 to 2 at SR or better, and SAR at 1 to 5 per carton. The MUR may not appear in a whole carton.

The distribution is top-heavy even by Japanese-set standards. Two printings of one Pokémon carry most of the single-card value, and the drop below is a cliff: ten of the twelve Art Rares sit at a 420円 floor, and Mega Excadrill ex's Super Rare asks 580円 — a 340 HP Mega full art priced like a common. 買取 runs near 70% of ask on the MUR and all four SARs, 57% to 60% on the two Super Rares, and about 40% on the Art Rare.
No dated launch-window yen figures could be sourced, so no percentage move since release is stated here. What is documented is the ranking: a release-day roundup named Mega Darkrai ex and Gwynn the trending SARs, Misty's Vitality among the SRs and Slowbro the AR — all still top the July 24 table. Sealed box resale is a genuine gap: the derived 6,000円 figure is what Pokémon Center Online and the lottery retailers charged, but no verifiable secondary-market box figure could be obtained, so none is published.
Products, supplies and the lottery allocation
Abyss Eye launched as a single card product: no special card set, starter deck, premium trainer box or high-class pack shipped near May 22, 2026, unusual for the block. What did ship was 18 official サプライ — a 2,970円 playmat, three 500円 deck cases and fourteen sleeve designs, one themed on ばけがくれ.

The set was allocated by lottery, not sold first-come: one aggregator counts more than 60 retailers running 抽選販売 between April and July 2026, nearly all capped at one box. Pokémon Center Online took entries from April 17 at 19:00 to April 20 at 16:59 and closed the winner window April 24. The terms tell more: カードラボ ran no walk-in sale on release day and removed the shrink at handover, and HMV gated entry on purchase history.

How Abyss Eye became Pitch Black
Japanese sets feed the English schedule on a lag, usually by merging two expansions into one release. Abyss Eye is the exception: Pitch Black, released July 17, 2026 as set 109 with 120 cards (84 main set plus 36 secrets), draws on Abyss Eye alone.
The mapping is provable at card level: Bulbapedia's page for Mega Darkrai ex (Pitch Black 48) lists its Japanese printings as 046/081, 099/081, 114/081 and 118/081, every one an Abyss Eye number.
The totals still do not match, the usual pattern: English main sets are supersets, 84 base cards against Japan's 81 and 36 secrets against 37.
